Rowing Machine Benefits

Looking for a rowing machine? These reviews will help you choose the right model...

Choosing the right rowing machine for your needs and budget can be a daunting task. With so many models on the market, and hugely different price marks and with differing features the choice can seem overwhelming. Hopefully these rowing machine reviews will help you narrow down the choice...

Concept2 Model D

The Concept 2 rowing machines are world renowed as “serious” machines, and are used in many commercial gyms. In fact, if you've had gym membership in the past 5 years the chances are you'll have used one of these excellent machines at some point.

A well built, sturdy unit the Model D has a relatively quiet flywheel (although still noisier than a magnetic resistance machine) which is supposed to simulate the feeling of rowing in water. The built in compter (known as the PM3 or “Performance Monitor” tracks loads of data and gives loads of workout options, and has a heart-rate monitoring built in (with an optional receiver). If you're looking for a serious workout machine that will perform for years to come, this is it.

First Degree S500 Fluid Rower

Though expensive, this rower has come top in a number of comparison tests and many users say that it's the most comfortable machine they have used, and a real pleasure to row. While the computer is much more basic than the Model D's, it's more than adequate giving all the information you need.

With 20 resistance settings from the 2 water filled drums, this machine can easily be adjusted to your specific workout needs, and the removable backrest is a useful addition. Yes it's expensive, but if you want the best money can buy this could be it!

Water Rower Natural

If looks are everything, then this is the rowing machine for you! Built with a hardwood frame this looks less like a piece of exercise equipment, and more like expensive furniture. It's well built, and as the name suggests uses water resistance so it's quiet and smooth.

There's no resistance settings, rather the harder you row the more resistance you'll meet. That makes it rather difficult to compare to most other machines, and it's not easy to be consistent with your workouts. While it looks great, and it a pleasure to use, there are better rowing machines in these reviews which will provide a better workout opportunity!

LifeSpan Fitness RW1000

The Lifespan RW1000 is a mid-priced magnetic rowing machine. It folds flat to 34 by 19 by 64 inches for storage. Offering 5 resistance settings, and with a quiet flywheel it's not a bad choice for anyone on a budget who wants a decent workhorse rowing machine. The 3 LED display gives plenty of useful information including distance, time, strokes and calories, although there isn't a heart rate monitor.
